21st Century Law Enforcement: High Tech Spies

SAN DIEGO, CA — An upcoming anti-terrorism summit, hosted by HALO CORP, will teach police how to remotely track down iPhones and hack into them. They will host a “scavenger hunt” to practice finding citizens’ iPhones using tracking technology. They will practice retrieving your passwords, video feeds, audio feeds, and GPS coordinates. Its all listed verbatim in the course description.

Most of the cops that attend these law enforcment conferences are paid to attend, or at least their expenses are paid and or re-imbursed by their respective departments or districts. So looking through the courses in this conference I could’nt help but notice courses on “counter-insurgency”, and Psychological operations, as well as high tech snooping and invasion of citizens privacy. And so indirectly you the citizen, your “tax dollars” that go to funding the police, are being used to track, monitor, and train cops to keep the populce in check.

More Killing in Obama’s ‘War on Terror’ Than Bush’s ‘War’

By: Kevin Gosztola
Michael Hayden, former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director under President George W. Bush, delivered a speech yesterday where he outlined the ways that President Barack Obama has managed a “practical consensus,” which has fostered “powerful continuity between two vastly different presidents”—himself and his predecessor, Bush.

Hayden noted “targeted killings” had “increased under Obama.” They had gone up because he closed CIA “black site” prisons and ended torture of detainees. Capturing terror suspects for imprisonment became “politically dangerous,” so Obama took another route: he just decided to kill them all. (Of which, Hayden said: “I don’t morally oppose that.”)

The former CIA director highlighted Obama’s failure to close Guantanamo, the administration’s invoking of the state secrets privilege in “war on terror” cases and supporting the continued legalization of the Bush administration’s warrantless wiretapping program through the reauthorization of the FISA Amendments Act. He personally thanked Obama for invoking state secrets because in some of the cases he had been named as a defendant.

Heading into November, President Barack Obama has America on a path to further entrenching the perpetual war on “terrorism.” No longer packaged and pushed as the “war on terror,” he has cosmetically retooled how some of the worst Bush administration policies are presented to the public. In many cases, these policies are not publicly described to US citizens at all.

The neoconservative war doctrine has been modernized and fine-tuned. Unilateral preemptive war is no longer conducted with a large number of forces. Instead, the government under Obama covertly launches operations with forces spread out around the globe. At any time, a small operations squad can be sent in to target and kill or a drone can be launched to extrajudicially assassinate a person.

The imperial dominance of the world by America has been strengthened under Obama. Hayden, Cheney, Rumsfeld and other Bush officials are pleased, because what he has done dissuades future presidential candidates from promoting policies when they campaign that aim to address unchecked executive power. It shows the national security state will envelop anyone elected, forcing them to dial back their idealism. And, in the arc of history, it vindicates the Bush administration, which was accused of war crimes and other massive abuses of power but, now, thanks to Obama, they are free to write books, give speeches, pen op-eds and go on television to celebrate what they did and tell the world it was not they who were wrong but Obama, who just did not know what it took to be the leader of the so-called free world.

America: Dread remains of a dream

By Mike Stathis

When Americans aren’t preoccupied with celebrity gossip, professional sports or social networking, they’re inundated with distorted facts and misguided ideals from the establishment media, pundits and politicians. As a result, the majority of the US population continues to support policies that have contributed to America’s declining living standards and vanishing economic opportunity.

In a previous article I pointed out that although corporate profits have been at record levels, the unemployment rate remains stubbornly high, with no signs of abatement. This relationship defies “free market” logic until one factors in the full economic impact of US trade policy. The big secret is that the economic arrangements underlying US trade policy are by no means based on free market economics.

When public discussions are held regarding issues most crucial to the nation, the full picture is never presented. Rather than an open debate, opponents go head-to-head with narrowly-focused arguments that rarely deviate from the well-anchored policies of Washington. This is done in order to keep voters shielded from real alternatives, so they will have no choice but to support the status quo.

Using its control over the media-entertainment complex, America’s fascist establishment can cause the masses to think and behave as it desires. It can convince them that they need a vaccination to protect against a pandemic which never manifests; that Saddam Hussein has “Weapons of Mass Destruction” which never surface; that Palestinians are the villains and Israelis are the victims; that Iran is an “evil nation,” posing a threat to the United States and the rest of the “free world.” It can even convince them that spying on their every move is in their best interest.

All that’s required to achieve this control is to convince voters that one political party has all of the answers, while the other has caused the problems. Accordingly, Americans will continue to vote for candidates from one of the two fascist parties in Washington. Thus, Americans get the same results regardless which party is in power. This is specifically why America’s rich continue to get richer at the expense of its working and middle class.

Nothing has changed. The same criminal gang has been pulling the same stunts for decades. Yet, with each wave of criminal activity, Americans have allowed the crime bosses to escape prosecution.

Until Americans stand up and take action, they will continue to be exploited by Washington, Wall Street and corporate America. This is guaranteed. The time has come for Americans must take back their country from the criminals. Otherwise, they can blame no one for their misery other than themselves.

Eleven Years Later, We Are Still at War

By Johnny Barber

Eleven years later, we are still at war. Bullets, mortars and drones are still extracting payment. Thousands, tens of thousands, millions have paid in full. Children and even those yet to be born will continue to pay for decades to come.

On a single day in Iraq last week there were 29 bombing attacks in 19 cities, killing 111 civilians and wounding another 235. On Sept 9th, reports indicate 88 people were killed and another 270 injured in 30 attacks all across the country. Iraq continues in a seemingly endless death spiral into chaos. In his acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination for President, Obama claimed he ended the war in Iraq, well… not quite.

Our soldiers, some physically damaged by IED’s, some mentally destroyed by PTSD, will pay for these wars for the rest of their days. Drug and alcohol abuse is out of control. Suicide among the troops is an epidemic. 2,916 Americans were lost in the towers on that fateful day, many, many more have perished in the intervening years.

Today we will be asked to honor the men and woman of our armed forces, but what does honoring the veterans entail? In its most recent report, The Veterans Administration estimates about 107,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. Mental illness plagues 45% of homeless vets and 70% suffer from some kind of substance abuse. So how do you honor our veterans? Are “Support Our Troops” ribbons still in vogue? How does our government honor our veterans other than use them as political pawns in stump speeches and cannon fodder for their wars?

84,000 American troops remain in Afghanistan. While the occupation is rarely mentioned in the U.S. mainstream media, that doesn’t mean the killing has stopped. On average, one U.S. soldier dies everyday. Not an enormous sum, unless it is your mother, father, son or daughter that has perished. Few Americans notice. Afghan loses are not reported. They have loved ones who grieve as well.

The American public has turned their attention to feeding their families, keeping their homes, and finding employment. But what of the $2 billion dollars per week we are spending on war in Afghanistan? What would $2 billion per week look like in our devastated communities, in our schools, in creating jobs or in caring for our elders? Politicians in both parties claim our first priority is to reduce the debt. If they were really serious, if they were honest, they would end this occupation and stop calling for cuts to Medicaid, Food Stamps, and Social Security.

The War on Terror exploits the tragedy of September 11 for the benefit of a very few. Poor people continue to pay an enormous price, while the elites, including our own government and the corporations it answers to, ignore everything but the influx of cash into their coffers. The war business is profitable if you refuse to count the cost of human lives.

FBI launches facial recognition project

As part of an update to the national fingerprint database, the FBI has begun rolling out facial recognition to identify criminals. It will form part of the bureau’s long-awaited, $1 billion Next Generation Identification (NGI) program, which will also add biometrics such as iris scans, DNA analysis, and voice identification to the toolkit. A handful of states began uploading their photos as part of a pilot program this February and it is expected to be rolled out nationwide by 2014.

Applications include tracking a suspect by picking out their face in a crowd and comparing images of a person of interest. against a national repository of images held by the FBI. An algorithm would perform an automatic search and return a list of potential hits for an officer to sort through and use as possible leads for an investigation.

The FBI’s Jerome Pender told the Senate in July that the searchable photo database used in the pilot studies only includes mugshots of known criminals. But it’s unclear from the NGI’s privacy statement whether that will remain the case once the entire system is up and running or if civilian photos might be added(and they will be, you dont spend 1 Billion dollars on this technology to keep tabs on a small minority of criminals and “suspected terrorists”), says attorney Jennifer Lynch of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

The Official 9/11 “conspiracy theory” explained in 5 minutes

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the events of 9/11, but there are also a lot of pertinent fact’s that go ignored and are labeled as “conspiracy theory”. Well let’s not forget that the official mythology regarding the events of 9/11, is a conspiracy theory story as well, and That story is much more ridiculous and incredible than any other theory out there.

Stellar Wind: The Secret NSA Domestic Spying Program; Whistleblower Tells All

As the anniversary of 9/11 approaches, instead of listening to mainstream media and government propaganda about what happened that day, and how all of the police state measures that have followed have made us more free, we should continue to uncover the lies of what really happened.

Now that the entire police state apparatus has obviously turned inward, as admitted in numerous government announcements and reports that are putting everyday Americans on terror watch lists, whistleblowers are stepping forward to reveal just how extensive and ongoing the surveillance has been. Instead of being heralded for their patriotism, these whistleblowers are being persecuted by the U.S. government. However, key insiders such as Sibel Edmonds, Susan Lindauer, and Thomas Drake have prevailed to reveal a startling amount of information that should concern any American who values civil liberties.

Former top NSA mathematician and code breaker, William Binney, has gone on record to publicly reveal the scope of a top-secret surveillance program that has directly targeted everyday Americans following 9/11. He is sounding an alarm about the massive scope of this project that engages in 24/7 warrantless wiretapping of the American population.

Surveillance and data collection of the U.S. population has been in the making for some time, perhaps best known through programs like ECHELON, but to have a 32-year, top-level veteran of the NSA reveal in the video below the domestic component of a program code named Stellar Wind, and his concerns that we are heading down the road to totalitarianism if not brought under control, should be a wake-up call to those who still believe that we are immune from the treatment that has been dished out across the rest of the planet.

Shoot to Kill: Autonomous Robots Developed By DARPA Will Not Question Orders

Them DARPA boy’s are still hard at work developing technology to make the human species obsolete….

The Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) Autonomous Robotic Manipulation (ARM) program seeks to find ways to utilize different remote robotic manipulation systems that are controlled by humans

In 2010, DARPA revealed a robot at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Conference in Denver that was interactive in a public forum. Participants would write software and have the robot preform specified tasks. The goal of this event was to show that robots were being developed by the US government to preform “dangerous tasks” such as disarming an explosive device thereby reducing “significant human interaction”.Universities and other government-controlled agencies such as Carnegie Mellon University, HRL Laboratories, iRobot, NASA-Jet Propulsion Laboratory, SRI, and the University of Southern California, provided teams of researchers to write software for DARPA.

These robots are being created to assist in excavation and rescue missions, according to DARPA.They could also be employed to evacuation operations during either man-made or natural disasters.

The use of government-sponsored universities such as Cornell, MIT and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands has created prototypes for bi-pedal robots that will someday be the synthetic army or police force.Stanford University’s Aerospace Robotics Laboratory (ARL) wants to introduce autonomous robots into law enforcement situations; such as response in lieu of police SWAT teams.

A force of robotic “peacekeepers” that are programed to become violent without remorse – will enable the government to organize and act where human law enforcement and/or trained soldiers may hesitate.
