DARPA Calls for Brain Wave Readers in Public Schools

This past spring, the DOD awarded four companies design grants through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which is designed to spur the development of technologies not already available in the commercial market. The Pentagon has called for the development of a small, low-cost device (perhaps as cheap as $30) to measure electroencephalography, the voltage fluctuations that occur as neurons fire within the brain. The device would work in conjunction with an app to deliver real-time information on neural activity to a tablet or smartphone.

It’s not the first time the U.S. military has brainstormed ways to tap the inner recess of the mind. In 2008, the DOD awarded $4 million to researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, the University of California Irvine and the University of Maryland to investigate ways people can communicate using brain waves.

According to DARPA, “there is a great need for inexpensive and easy to use neural recording devices” aka a cheap EEG brain electrical activity recording smart app “to allow widespread use by schools and average citizens” because “having EEGs in every classroom in America would engage students in science and technology in a way not previously possible in the field of neuroscience.

As if Government funded Public school and it’s current indoctrination programs were’nt bad enough, Now the Government’s cutting edge Technological development agency want’s to use your children as lab rat’s for developing technologies. New Technologies in America’s classroom’s isn’t necessarily a bad thing in itself. But when the Military’s premier warfighting development agency is leading the charge to acclimate the public to using these technologies then the public should be skeptical. It would be ludicrous to believe that the government is all about spending millions on a completely benevolent fostering of a love of science.
